Duncan Named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Kansas sophomore pitcher Frank Duncan has been named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 21, the conference office announced Monday. This marks the second time Duncan has received the honor after being named the conference’s pitcher of the week on April 23.

Duncan, a 6-foot-4 sophomore right-hander from San Francisco, Calif., pitched a complete game shutout against Border Showdown rival Missouri on Thursday, May 17, helping propel the Jayhawks to a series win and a trip to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 Baseball Championship this week. Duncan scattered seven hits and walked just one for his second complete game of the season, and first shutout. Over his three starts in the month of May, the second-year pitcher is 2-1 with an 0.82 ERA in 22 innings.

The sophomore ranks third in the Big 12 in innings pitched (105 2/3), fifth in strikeouts (92) and sixth in opponents’ batting average (.217). Duncan’s 92 K’s are tied for seventh most in a season in KU history.
Duncan’s award is the third pitcher of the week honor won by the Jayhawks this season as redshirt junior Thomas Taylor was tabbed the conference’s top pitcher following the first weekend of the season.

Duncan and the Jayhawks will open the 2012 Big 12 Baseball Championship against Texas A&M on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
